(Yeah, uh, look back to look forward. Stay strong. Yeah.)
Born in the shadow of a history so deep
Tears of the ancestors in the soil we keep
From the shores of the motherland to city street lights
We still fighting for the dawn through the coldest of nights
They took the gold, tried to break the soul's frame
Left the continent scarred but we carry the name
A black man standing tall in a world full of wind
Gotta know where you started just to know how to win (yeah)
We rose from the struggle, we shine in the dark
Carrying the fire from a legendary spark
Through the pain of the past, we still rise above
With the strength of a king and a heart full of love
(Yeah, we rise, no cap)
The impact remains on the land of our birth
But they can't measure what our spirit is worth
Like Pac in the rain, I'm just speaking my mind
With that Ja Rule grit, leaving shadows behind
Heavy is the head that is wearing the crown
But we never let the system hold the heritage down
We rose from the struggle, we shine in the dark
Carrying the fire from a legendary spark
Through the pain of the past, we still rise above
With the strength of a king and a heart full of love
Never forget the roots.
Stay strong.
Yeah.
