They say a good product sells itself.
A tree that bears good fruit does not need a billboard to announce its harvest.
But today, those who have held power for years are printing giant billboards to advertise their own performance!
Then their own party intervenes.
Five days to pull those billboards down!
So I ask you, my people:
WHAT ARE THEY ADVERTISING?
They raised the billboards, they printed their names, Big photographs advertising their fame. They filled the highways, they covered the town, Telling the people what they had done.
Even incumbents joined the show, But their own party said, "It's time to go!" If you've served the people for many a year, Why shout so loudly when the people are here?
A newcomer may need to announce his name, Explain his vision and enter the game. But when you've held power and occupied the chair, Your record is known; the people were there!
LEAD: What did you promise? CHOIR: WHAT DID YOU DELIVER?
LEAD: What did you tell us? CHOIR: WHAT DID WE RECEIVE?
You can print your name on a thousand walls, But the people's memory outlives them all!
Good work needs no billboard! Good work speaks for itself! If you've served the people well, Let your record speak!
The NDC watched as the billboards rose, Big pictures everywhere, along the roads. Then the General Secretary spoke that day: "Five days! Take those giant billboards away!"
What a moment! What a sight! Suddenly, the question came to light. If your performance was already clear, Why spend so much to make your name appear?
Advertising is not a crime, But performance must stand the test of time. You cannot replace the work you should do With giant pictures telling us about you!
The people already know you, They have watched you through the years. They remember all your promises, Their expectations, hopes, and fears.
What did you promise when you came? What did you pledge to change? What did you achieve in the end? What can you show the people, my friend?
A promise is a seed, Performance is the tree. The harvest tells the story For everybody to see.
You can paint your name across the sky, But you cannot force the people to believe. You can decorate every road and street, But empty baskets cannot provide a feast!
A tree that bears fruit attracts the crowd, It doesn't need a speaker shouting loud. The farmer's harvest tells the tale, And empty barns cannot prevail.
The eye may see the billboard, But the heart remembers pain. The ear may hear your promises, But the people examine the gain.
Respect cannot be bought with signs, Nor printed on a thousand lines. When election day comes around, The people's verdict will resound!
LEAD: What did you promise? CHOIR: THE PEOPLE REMEMBER!
LEAD: What did you deliver? CHOIR: THE PEOPLE WILL JUDGE!
LEAD: Can a billboard buy respect? CHOIR: NO! NO! NO!
LEAD: What should speak for you? CHOIR: LET YOUR WORK SPEAK!
Good work needs no billboard! Good work speaks for itself! You can print your name on a thousand walls, But you cannot manufacture respect!
My people, remember this:
A newcomer may tell you who he is.
But an incumbent must show you what he has done.
You have made the promises. You have occupied the position. You have had your opportunity.
Now answer the people's question:
WHAT DID YOU PROMISE? WHAT DID YOU DELIVER?
The billboards may come down, But the people's memory remains!
GOOD WORK NEEDS NO BILLBOARD!
