Verse 1 By Babylon’s rivers, we sat and cried, Remembering Zion, our home and pride. Our harps hung silent upon the trees, Our hearts were heavy, no songs of peace. They said, “Sing for us a joyful song,” But sorrow had held our hearts so long. How could we sing in a strange land, When we longed for Zion’s promised land?
Chorus How shall we sing the Lord’s song In a strange land far away? How shall we praise You, Holy Father, When our hearts are filled with pain? Though our harps are silent now, And our tears fall like the rain, We will trust in You, Jehovah, And we will sing again!
Verse 2 They asked for joy, they mocked our tears, They could not understand our fears. The song of Zion was deep within, A sacred fire they could never dim. Though we were weary, far from home, We knew we never walked alone. Our God remembers, our God still reigns, His love remains through all our pain.
